Since the 1950s, The University of Kansas has promoted international exchange
as a vital link in education. A national leader in providing low-cost, high-quality
study abroad programs, the University of Kansas offers semester, academic
year, summer, winter break and spring break programs in over 70 countries
throughout the world. These vary in structure from exchanges and individually
arranged programs to group programs led by KU faculty members.
Study abroad is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity whose benefits go far beyond
academic learning. Students in study abroad programs develop skills in intercultural
communication and problem-solving applicable to everyday life. Students learn
to become independent and take initiative. Students often gain self-confidence,
flexibility, perseverance, and appreciation of diversity. An international experience
strengthens career opportunities and increases awareness of the interconnected
nature of the world. The global character of the economy has prompted more students
to experience cross-cultural linkages first-hand.
