South Korea offers students the chance to visit exquisite palaces and gardens of former dynasties as well as experience the ultra-modern skyscrapers and fast paced city life. Korea has a 5,000 year history with ancient palaces, pagodas and stunning green landscape with majestic mountain tops. However, Korea is one of the world’s most technologically and scientifically advanced countries with companies like Samsung and LG serving as global leaders in electronics.
Seoul, with a population of over 20 million in its metropolitan area, is one of Asia’s largest cities and is the political, financial and cultural center of Korea.
Korea University
Korea University is one of the two oldest private universities in the country. Founded in 1905, the university has stately architecture and sprawling lawns and is conveniently located in the hilly Anam-dong section of Seoul which is in the northeast part of Seoul (approximately 20 minutes from downtown Seoul) and is located two miles northeast of the famous East Gate monument which is the entrance to the ancient walled-city of Seoul. The university is located within five minutes of various restaurants, shops and even a famous Buddhist temple. Korea University is a top-ranked “Ivy League” private university in the country and has received world wide recognition for its excellence by receiving a ranking in The Times as one of the World’s top 200 universities. The university offers a buddy program to assist exchange students to get settled into the university. Exchange students may also participate in various clubs such as Korean Dance Club, Photography, Drama, Sports Club and a Choir group. Club field trips include visits to palaces, museums and the Folk Village.
Academic Program
More than 35% of all classes offered at Korea University are instructed in English. Courses in English include art and design courses, business (marketing, management and international business), communication, economics, engineering (chemical, civil and environmental, electrical engineering and computer science and mechanical), English literature, history, linguistics, mathematics, physics, political science and international studies, psychology, sociology. Most of the courses in the Graduate School of International Studies are taught in English. Graduate courses available in English are Korean Studies, International Area Studies and International Business.
Korean language courses are offered every semester with six different levels available from beginner to advanced.
Korea University also offers a six week summer program which offers a wide range of courses in English as well as intensive Korean language courses. Contact the Office of Study Abroad for more details.
Accommodations
CJ International House offers air-conditioned, limited single and twin shared accommodation. Bathroom facilities are connected to the suite and are shared by suitemates. Anam Hall 2 is an air-conditioned dorm with triple shared accommodation and community bathrooms.

Eligibility
Open to KU students with sophomore status and above who have a minimum 2.80 cumulative GPA. There is no language requirement.

The program fee includes tuition, fees, emergency medical evacuation and repatriation services, and KU and on-site orientation.
Estimated additional costs: $1,702 for semester and $4,255 for academic year, meals-$1,362 for semester and $3,405 for academic year, airfare, personal expenses, books, ground transportation, passport and visa fees.

Financial Aid
KU students who qualify for financial aid in the form of Stafford and/or other loans, Pell or SEOG Grants, and scholarships may apply the aid to the cost of a Study Abroad Program.
Korea University awards scholarships which range from approximately $800 - $1,000. See Office of Study Abroad for application deatils.
Limited supplemental scholarships are also available to KU undergraduates. Applications are available at the Office of Study Abroad. You can also download the scholarship application. The scholarship application deadline is March 1 for Fall and October 1 for Spring.
