The University of Strathclyde

Glasgow, Scotland

With a population of around 740,000, Glasgow is Scotland’s largest city. In recent years large areas of the city center have undergone transformation. Many Victorian and Edwardian buildings have been restored and much new building has taken place, tastefully blending the new with the old. From Glasgow it is easy to explore the surrounding countryside, with Loch Lomond just 32 km away, the Highlands to the north, and Clyde Estuary and the Hebridean Islands to the west. Edinburgh, the capital, is just 45 minutes away by rail.

Founded in 1796 during the Scottish Enlightenment, the University of Strathclyde enrolls about 18,000 students in five schools. Located in the heart of Glasgow, the university is conveniently located between the remains of medieval Glasgow to the east and the present-day commercial center to the west. Strathclyde is noted for the high quality of its scientific teaching and research.
