The University of Wollongong

The University was founded in 1951 and today has an enrollment of 18,000 students. The international population includes students from more than 70 countries. The University Union provides a community center for the University, catering to the social, cultural and recreational activities and interests of students. Sports are encouraged, and 24 social sporting clubs are available, from rugby to rock climbing.

The City of Wollongong

Wollongong is Australia’s ninth largest city and lies 50 miles south of Sydney. The city of Wollongong is a vibrant, bustling, multicultural city in the Illawarra region with a population of around 350,000. It is known as the gateway to Australia’s Leisure Coast, where long, sandy beaches, rain forests and expanses of national park land offer all that outdoor enthusiasts desire. Stunning beaches in and around Wollongong are famous for their clean sand, aquamarine ocean and stunning natural rock settings. Students can also take in breathtaking views from the various Wollongong lookout points at Bulli Pass Scenic Reserve, Mount Keira Lookout and Mt. Kembla.

Accommodations

Program Dates

Fall semester: Mid-July to early December (mid-semester break in late September)
Spring semester: Mid-February to late June (mid-semester break in mid-April)

Eligibility

Applicants must be second-semester sophomore status by the beginning of the program and have a cumulative 3.0 GPA.

Cost

Estimated program expenses (Spring 2008): Tuition and program fee are approximately $6,700, room and board $4,636, airfare $1,850, personal expenses $2,500, books and supplies $375, public transportation $125, Australian visa and passport $458. Total expenses are approximately $16,732.

Financial Aid

KU students who qualify for financial aid in the form of Stafford and/or other loans, Pell or SEOG Grants, and scholarships may apply the aid to the cost of a Study Abroad Program.

Limited supplemental scholarships are available to KU undergraduates. Applications are available at the Office of Study Abroad. You can also download the scholarship application. The scholarship application deadline is March 1 for Fall and October 1 for Spring.
