General Information

As an exchange program, ISEP is one of the most affordable study abroad choices for KU students. ISEP offers a wide selection of sites for the cost of an exchange, making it an excellent value and good option for independent-minded KU students.

ISEP offers exchanges in almost any discipline, including technical fields. Fields of study such as international business, economics, engineering, architecture, the humanities, natural and social sciences, communications, fine arts, journalism, education, exercise and sports sciences and languages are available at locations throughout the world. Study at the graduate level is available at most institutions.

ISEP is a total immersion program. In most cases, ISEP participants register as a regular student at the host institution, take the same courses and have the same assignments, and participate in the same activities as the local students at that institution.
Generally, the language of instruction is the language of the host country, although there are many sites in countries whose primary language is not English which offer university-level courses in English.

When applying to ISEP students choose several alternate sites; competition for placements varies from country to country.

ISEP-Direct: ISEP-Direct programs are fee-paid study abroad programs that provide additional opportunities for study at ISEP sites. Semester, academic year, and summer programs are available at select institutions through ISEP-Direct. All students that meet academic and personal requirements for study at the ISEP-Direct site of their choice are likely to be placed.

Accommodations

Generally, accommodations are provided in student housing and students receive a stipend for meals. Homestays and/or apartments may be options at some sites.

Dates

Vary depending on site.

  • Spring placements best for students interested in a semester only.
  • Fall placements are limited as many programs do not end by January 1.

Eligibility

KU students with a minimum 2.75 GPA and junior status are preferred, but eligibility also varies by site.

Financial Aid

KU students who qualify for financial aid in the form of Stafford and/or other loans, Pell or SEOG Grants, and scholarships may apply the aid to the cost of a Study Abroad Program.

Limited supplemental scholarships are available to KU undergraduates. Applications are available at the Office of Study Abroad. You can also download the scholarship application. The scholarship application deadline is March 1 for Fall and October 1 for Spring.

Additional ISEP scholarships are available. Please check the ISEP website for further information.
